Regarding Newton carrying cases,
My girlfriend uses the flip top leather case for her MP 2100. We have both
found from experience that leaving the Newton's screen lid open -- even if the
Newt is inside the leather case -- allows small bits of dust, cookie crumbs,
and whatnot to get into the screen's nooks and crannies. It's therefore best to
keep the screen lid closed.

She used to use the 'laptop flip-out' case that allows one to set the Newton
'sidewards' and use the keyboard. I think she felt it was too much to carry
all that gear, along with her purse and her canvas bag of work stuff! She
still carries the Newton with her (nearly) everywhere she goes, along with an
ancient 2000 IPAQ tucked in her purse.

I lucked out when I purchased a Newton two years ago from a former developer,
as I scored a nice little Mead zippered nylon case that holds a Newton
(loosely) o the right side and has a business card holder and several sleeves for
holding spare PC cards, etc. The case has an apple logo on it as well.

I also scored a huge, boxy, black brushed leather and nylon case that has a
subtle apple logo on it. This case came with the developer's Newton, Inc.
business card still tucked into the sleeve! It's pretty cool, but I only use it to
hold spare Newton bits and accessories right now.

I found another case, very cheap at the 'Big Lot!' store, which works fairly
well for my spare Newt. This zippered nylon case measures slightly larger
than a Newton MP 2X00, has teeny sleeves inside for business cards, and even a
separate zippered outer pocket! At first, it's a slight stretch to get the
Newton into the case, but it fits nicely after a bit (It's a little bit tight at
the top and bottom of the case, but otherwise is nicely padded). This case is
sold for about five or six dollars under the name 'eRunner'. Such a deal.

If you're hard pressed to find a decent case, get one of those small to
mid-sized padded nylon CD cases. A few slight alterations and it should work fine.
