        I remember reading several years ago that the emphasis on =
extensions=20
was a legacy of the gent who was responsible for the NeXT kernal, and=20
who did some work for Apple after they bought NeXT. His attitude was=20
along the lines of "type/creator codes are evil" because they aren't=20
used in Unix, and he had enough clout to get them de-emphasized in the=20=

creation of OS X. Mind you, this article was an attempt to flay him=20
alive because of some obscure aspect of the NeXT kernal that could=20
result in a speed reduction so I'm not sure how reliable it was...
