Frank Gruendel has a wonderful outline of how to take the eMate apart
to get to the hinge-springs here:

If yours is like mine, only the motherboard needs to be removed to
access the springs. There's a tiny bit of soldering involved but it's
pretty easy (not near any heat sensitive devices).
