The fact that it saw the iBook at all suggests that it is possible to
connect to Escale, though timing can be an issue. review the comments
on wikiwikinewt at the bottom of this email. Search "Escale".
This also suggests that your configuration is capable of connecting. I
suggest that you install Classic and use NCU. Some folks have had
difficulty with installing NCU when the Classic and OSX are on the same
partition, but it is possible.
