The two contacts that you refer to are for the thermister and at room
temperature should give a resistance reading of about 10 ohms (check
archives for correct reading) If the Newt reports that it is charging
then these are probably fine.
Do you have Avi's backdrop or Frank Gruendel's Testit installed?
Either of these will give a more detailed report of the charge status.
