I am in the process of loading one of the Lacie drives with my MP3
collection, estimated 2 drives needed for all of them=2E I bought and
received 3 500GB drives=2E My friend has received his, as have 3 of my
teammates at work, all at the stated price=2E In all, we've ordered and
received 12TB worth of drives, all received without issue=2E
In looking at reviews on these drives, there seems to be a higher than
average failure rate=2E This is mostly attributable to heat=2E The enclo=
sure
is cooled by convection (no fan)=2E A neat thing if it can be done
effectively, because there is almost no noise=2E However, given the
enclosure has 2 250GB Maxtor ATA133 drives (with an internal RAID0
controller) in it that pull over an amp of power, the heat dissapation is
apparently not adequate=2E I run a fan on the drives while in use, and th=
ey
stay cool in forced air circulation=2E
There is also an issue with using these drives under XP SP2=2E They requi=
re
a firmware update, and the update can only be done with an XP SP1 machine=2E=
=20
FYI=2E=2E=2E No issue with Macs, since they were designed for use with th=
em=2E
It is possible to pull the drives from the enclosure and mount them as any=
other ordinary drive, since they are IDE ATA133 with standard connectors=2E=
Have fun! They are HUGE!

have on the site? You folks actually received them? If so, awesome
because I just ordered mine! The order transaction appeared to
complete, but I noticed if I clicked for the item description it said
something like "This item is no longer available=2E We've redirected
you to these results for your convenience=2E=2E=2E" However I still click=

add to cart, it worked and the order went through=2E Think I'll
actually get it???
