My apologies for not responding to this thread sooner. We've experienced the cold Newton phenomenon on several occasions:
Last September, we camped in the Smokey Mountains (Elkmont).
Granted there was a river nearby, and it was the fall, but our Newts both 'died' after we took them from the car and into our tent. It must have been colder/damper than we realized! We put them back into the car and charged them in the morning, after which, they were fine.
I took my Newton MP 2100 to a recent job-related meeting. After walking maybe a hundred yards in very cold weather, I could not get the MP to turn itself on! After about thirty or so minutes, I did a soft reet again, and it was fine.
They just do not like the cold.
