Dear Lee,
feel free to add to it! That's mainly how the Wiki grows: As you=20 discover
and try something new, you log every step in a txt document or=20=
else, and when you've succeeded, you copy & paste it to the Wiki, add=20
some formatting and share with others who want to try the same.
Newbies are especially suited for this help to the community, as=20 they
really observe everything and don't take anything for granted.

Hmh, I'm not familiar with the Wifi driver (Marty, Woody or any other=20
knowledgable person pls. chime in...), but I think there is a demo or
shareware of the driver (time limited?) and the full version you get=20 from
the programmer in Japan (or you just get a code to unlock the=20 shareware
or something). So unless the seller purchased licenses and=20 bundles them
with the cards (which would be brilliant--can we have that=20=
with large storage cards and ATA Support, too?!), you might have to=20
register yourself.
Where did you shop? What version does it say that driver is?

Have you seen the stuff linked off from here=20
http://tools.unna.org/wikiwikinewt/index.php/IrDAConnection? Contains=20
links to things the Newton FAQ doesn't know about. In your case the first=20
paragraph says pretty clear (a) you could do that very well, if (b) you=20=
weren't bootstrapped ("you must first install the Neo, Nitro, and IC/VC=20=
packages available at http://40hz.org ."). So the bi-continental Card
Lending Service is for you.

Well, now, if we had a page that would have all the details on that,=20 life
would have been easier for you, right?

Since you're in the Americas, Paul Curtis is your man (Euros are served=20=
by Frank Gruendel).

so.
Cheers Paul,
we wouldn't hafta if that were covered on the Wiki (see below) or in=20 the
Newton FAQ. It's extremely cool to have the Card Lending Service,=20 but
that service is besides the point if our Newton newbies and=20 returnees
have a hard time finding out about this brilliant and=20 generous community
support that you and Frank provide.
> Borrow a card from me, or from someone and have them put Eckhart=20

That's the Card Lending Service alright, but AFAIK there's nothing on=20
that in the Newton FAQ nor anywhere a website on that, not even a page=20=
on Frank's very own and otherwise ab-so-lu-te-ly flawless=20
http://www.pda-soft.de . If Lee had found any details on your service=20
(don't you also offer storage cards for purchase, just as Frank does?),=20=
the card with everything he needs would probably be in the mail by now.
So I've put up a page for that on the Wiki=20
http://tools.unna.org/wikiwikinewt/index.php/CardLending and linked it=20=
off the NewbieGuide and BootStrapping pages. Just fill it with some=20
meaningful information on how to do that. If the information=20
what-where-how were readily available there (or in the FAQ), then=20 this...
> I'd type out the instructions AGAIN, but I'm tired of doing that.
...understandable tireness wouldn't occur at all! Any moron could then=20=
just point to the proper Wiki-page, you'd get the rest you need, and=20 all
Newtonians would be happy, fluffy bunnies!
(That's what the Wiki is all about: The Wiki is your friend! ;=3D} )
> Search the archives
Brilliant idea, but I have done precisely that recently on exactly the=20=
same topic hoping to find out who all offers this service and what are=20=
the rules exactly, and know what? So many irrelevant hits came back=20 that
I had to abandon this. There must be an easier way... (hint: read=20=
that one paragraph above where it says "Wiki" ;=3D} )
> Just in case Powerbooks don't have Ir Ports, my apologies.
No prob, that slacker coulda have bought an external IR-port USB-dongle=20=
thing, couldn't he? So there... (still wouldn't have helped any since=20
he's so bootstrapped he couldn't get Nitro, Neo and IC/VC installed=20 first
;=3D} )
So let's use all the cuddly warm feeling and enthusiasm we've generated=20=
right *now* to get the IR and Card Lending topics better covered in the=20=
Wiki and make Newtonia a better place. Okay?
Dear all--
if you know anything about connecting the Newton to IR-devices (other=20
Newtons, PowerBooks, PCs, mobile phones, etc.) and beaming stuff around=20=
(from/to Newtons, printers, desktop boxes, phones, etc.), then pls. hop=20=
over to http://tools.unna.org/wikiwikinewt/index.php/IrDAConnection and=20=
see if you can contribute anything to that page (esp. step-by-step=20
Newbie-proof HowTos).
It's some stuff and links that I had compiled when I found the Newton=20 FAQ
to be sorely outdated on that topic (e.g. *nothing* about Eckhart's=20=
IR packages which were released within the last two or three years...=20=
*nothing* about Einstein... does it say anything about Blunt or Mail V?=20=
I think they both came out after the last update 2 1/2 years ago...).=20 But
it is not complete, it is just a start. It could use detail on=20 setup
(what packages to install, how to config) and usage descriptions=20=
(do what when and where).
Come on everybody, let's do it! Don't be so lazy!=
