Wow. Thanks to everyone for all your responses, either through this forum or direct via the .Mac interface.

I don't want to hog bandwidth but I got some really positive suggestions definitely worthy of consideration and a response. Therefore I've simply updated the 'next steps' page on my .Mac site to summarise what I've picked up so far.
