I too would hope someone out there is doing so, but with the level of
pessimism I've been reading (however, legitimate that pessimism may be), I
do have my doubts.

One the one hand, we have some on this list who have presented the "labor of
love" point, which they contend to be insufficient in-and-of-itself to bring
such a project to fruition. And then we have others who point to the
"limited potential user base" to claim that even paying Newton users with
cash in hand will hardly make the case for such an effort.

Indeed, by logical deduction, one can only conclude these are the reasons
why no such OS X native NCU replacement has ever appeared on the market.

There are a few among us out there are proponents of Escale; however most
who have replied about their experience with Escale are not happy with that
versus what a true OS X native "NCU replacement" could offer.

Indeed I fear that all our postings under the heading "Re: [NTLK] Native
installer for NCU and OS X Update" may be nothing more than just a one time
spurt for others 5 years hence to Google and say "what happened to all that
momentum?"

Certainly, if a project does not begin due to the current level of interest
in the project, I doubt one will. And as I stated yesterday, I would hope
that any such project would be much more than a good-intentioned personal
hobby -- a project lacking direction or deadline, and one that could be
tossed aside to due marriage, divorce, one's education, lack of free time,
etc.

So truly, it would take an enormously responsible party to carry this
project through to completion, coupled with daily support of the Newton
community. But I for one would be willing to play my part in this if the
author of the software is serious about finishing what he or she starts.

Best,

James Wages
