Two options spring to mind. Firstly, if you use Rosetta (the printed
letter recogniser) you should be able to get those fancy characters
recognised. I don't use Rosetta myself so I can't say how easy this will
be, but no doubt there are other people on the list who use accented
characters every day.
The other option is to double-tap on the password field, opening the
on-screen keyboard. Special characters can be accessed by using the
Option and Shift-Option buttons. In addition, accents can be added to
regular characters by tapping on the required accent on the keyboard and
then tapping on the character to be accented. For example to get an
e-acute first tap on the acute symbol, then tap on the e.
If you have a genuine Newton keyboard attached you can get the same
effect from that too.
