Hi,
i had the chance to get a Socket Serial PCMCIA,
a card which adds fully compliant rs232 serial channel capability.
Here's a photo from the web:

Although Socket published drivers for major OSes but not for the Newton,
the serial card is recognized by NewtonOS right out of the box,
infact after inserting it
the message "A communication card has been inserted" appears on the
MP screen.
Apart from reading such encouraging message, noone of the most used
applications
offers to handle the newly added serial-pcmcia port for the serial
communications.
The only utility i have found capable of driving the serial port#2 is
'BasicSerial'
a package part of the 'Newt' programming environment.
Use of BasicSerial is limited to terminal emulation, it means that i
am able to sync the MP
when running a terminal software as ZTerm on the desktop only.
Does anybody know if an extension exist or can be made
to let the NewtonOS manage the serial-pcmcia port from the Dock app?
As i feel that an extensions does not exist, probably a new one
should have to be made.
I don't have the skills to make it myself but if someone here in the
list would want to spend
a bit of his time on this project, note that i am open to ship my
Socket serial pcmcia at my expenses
to let you take it a try.
Thanks.
