Thanks for the replies from Simon and William. I don't have my own
mail server, but nobody else out there would see what I would be
changing, anyway. And it's a shame that editing the message doesn't
change the "date sent" or "date received" tag. How could one change
those?
I suppose I should explain my purpose in asking for the information.
I want to use Mail to archive my Notes from the Newton. I would like
them to be time-stamped appropriately. Because Mail on OS X does html
formatting, stores everything in plain text, has MIME when needed,
and a few other things including Spotlight, I have found myself
archiving much of my computer activity in Mail. So, for example, it
turns into my "journal" or "notepad" in which I quickly open a file
(Butler helps me with a quick keystroke, opening a blank mail
message) and jot notes during a phone call or whatever. I can store
web pages (in Safari, Cmd-I creates a message with the page as a
body) for later reading of the text portions (links to images don't
work, but I usually don't want them), and so on.
I want to incorporate the Newton into this. Rather than just storing
as text files created by NewtSync (which I otherwise love to have,
organized as is appropriate), I want to have my Newton Notes merged
into my Mail archive. Hence the desire for hacking the date so that
the date of the Note matches the date that Mail sees. If I could get
the dates and times right, I would have the appropriate time flow of
what I worked on, be it on the Newton when away from my computer or
on the desktop while at my computer.
It seems, though, that it's impossible. Sigh. I wish that weren't the
case. Such is life. Anyone have another suggestion?
