Actually I would like to be certain I can still use my newton keyboard with usb-001. My suggestion is to have both connections in a single device. Call it usbser-001.

We already have a device for that and it's called SER-001, it was
designed and built by one Dave Humphreys...
Works like a champ with the keyboard and with regular old mac to
imagewriter style serial cables...
