Hi,

here below is a link to a new Newton hardware accessory i made
http://homepage.mac.com/adriano.angelillis/PhotoAlbum5.html

NewtSplit is an adapter which connects to any MessagePad (or Mac)
serial port.
It's built upon a 8pin mini-din plug which splits in two cables
ending to
a USB socket per 80cm lenght and a 9pin sub-D (alias DB9) socket per
90cm lenght.
[Note: the USB port is molded in a heavy PVC magnetic base, to keep a
led-light in almost every position]

The NewtSplit's usb concept is similar to the NewtLight's (9pin mini-
din to usb adapter),
but the technology is very much different, so that the max current
that can be sourced
through NewtSplit's usb port will last to power a led-light only.
Although less powerful, such technology is compatible with really any
MessagePad
and thanks to Frank Gruendel the wonderful NewtLight.app is already
compatible with MP1x0 series.

About the DB9 cable, it can be used to sync a MessagePad directly to
any Windows PC
or it can become a universal adapter when connected to the "High
Speed Serial Converter",
a FTDI chip based serial to usb converter (photos provided on
NewtSplit's website)
compatible with Windows, OS9 and OSX and fully recognized by all
Newton desktop software available.
Using such adapter files can be transferred from the Newton at the
speed of 230400kpbs,
instead of usual 38400.

Another cool feature of this adapter is the capability of being
recognized by the Windows system
as a standard COM port while being it connected to a usb port instead.

NewtSplit is available in bundle with the 'High Speed Serial
Converter' at prices below:
  - 48,90eur shipping cost to US and Canada included
  - 47,50eur shipping cost to Europe included

Please, if interested on buying, take contact privately.

Thanks in advance for sharing your feedback,
any comment will be very appreciated.

Kind regards,

Adriano Angelillis
