Hi,
here below are some useful infos to start using terminal connectivity
between a MessagePad and any desktop computer.
EETransfer software bundle offers a almost complete/fully featured
terminal utility for the MessagePad called EETrminal.
You will need to run a terminal software on your desktop computer in
order to use Easter Eggs software capabilities
(in example ZTerm for Mac and the hundreds available for the Windows
system).
To estabilish connection between your Messagepad and the desktop,
first physically connect the devices using in example a simple serial
connection.
Then follow directions below:
- open ZTerm on Mac
- under 'Settings' menu open 'Connection' preferences and select
'38400bps' in the 'Data Rate' panel.
- under 'Settings' menu open 'Modem' preferences and select your
serial port
- open EETransfer on Newton and tap the 'Connect' button
- on the window that will appear, select 'Serial' connection then
configure the 'Speed' at 38400bps
(note that the speed must be the same as on the desktop's terminal)
- on Zterm, under 'File' menu, choose 'Send files', then select
'ZModem' protocol, then choose the file to send from its location on
your hard drive. A little window will appear to show the file
transfer progress bar.
- on EETransfer tap 'Receive' then select 'ZModem' to strat
downloading the file to the InBox.
Notes:
- In order to get a file transfer, you will always need to use the
same physical connection
and same type of transfer service (Xmodem, YModem, Direct, etc etc
etc) between the two devices.
- Physical connections accepted by EETransfer are: IrDA, Direct
serial, Modem, AppleTalk (and all the variants as serial to
bluetooth, serial to TCP, etc.) and obviously permits to sync to your
desktop at home from anywhere in the world.
- To send any file from the MessagePad, just select it in
'overview' mode, then tap the routing button and select the
EETransfer service. This procedure will open EETerminal, which will
then ask you to select the correct services (type of connection,
speed of connection and protocol to be used for file trasnfer). Once
you'll have correctly configured all the parameters, the file
transfer will start. On the desktop side the ZTerm terminal client
receives ZModem transfers automatically.
- ZModems protocol allows to restart download of a partially
downloaded file from the last bit trasnferred.
- Once connected both the devices and having the terminal softwares
both running and connected, all you will write in one of the
terminals window will appear on the second terminal window. You can
also use a specific font when doing it.
Hope this will be of help.
Regards,
Adriano Angelillis
