Dumb? How is this a dumb idea? It might be a complex idea, but dumb - no.
I tried to get people interested in writing a program to easily set
the time on the Newton. No takers.
Chris wants to make his VW electric (something like
www.electroauto.com - though they use a Porsche 914 which has less
room than a Super Beetle), and wants to use a Newton to monitor the
system (investigate data acquisition, embedded systems programming,
automotive power conditioning, LabView, ADCs, human interface design,
Newton programming) and do cruise control (take a look at DIY-EFI,
efi332, MegaSquirt, robotics). This is a big project, but he got
people interested.
Is it helpful to run someone's idea down and be the designated
nay-sayer? Not particularly.
If he was to succeed, how many would jump on and say how wonderful
the Newton is? Lots.
