Well, the problem is really simple, and the solution is/was as well.
This alpha software is most likely going to fix things. I know I ran
it some years ago, and it prevented my Newton from crashing. I ran a
few tests with it--multiple dates, repeating dates, changing dates,
back-dating, forward dating, and it never crashed, and I didn't see
any weirdness (wrong dates/times, etc). Not only that, but it actually
stayed on that Newton until the "end" of it's stay with me (I think I
sold it, but that may be the one I left on the roof of my car)
In any case, you can run the tests yourself... Make a couple complete
backups onto your computer, and if you can, a couple card backups (I
did both) and then add the fix. Next, with the fix added, start adding
dates in 2010 and later, and see what happens. Next, forward-date your
Newton to 2010 and then 2011, and then, to really push it 2020, or
maybe 2525. ;-) (If you are still alive, still alive)
If it works, you are safe, backdate to the current time, and keep
using it. I suppose I should reinstall and test it on my Newton, esp.
since it's not used much nowadays except for notes. (I _hate_ writing
on the Palm!)
