There is no reason to reload the programs. This is a red herring.

Escale doesn't actually have any sync capability, it just has the
button. Also Escale can screw up the connection, so that can break
things.

Is is possible you have your machine set (in System Preferences/
Classic) to automatically start classic at boot time? That in
combination with the OS9 Keyspan drivers installed could bee hogging
the serial connection. Make sure the start classic automatically is
OFF.

Don't know. I think another poster suggested that there is no OS9
driver for that Keyspan device? That could certainly be a problem if
true.

Use Newten to install the needed components (check the Wiki), that
should help you get NCU working as you won't need the Keyspan driver
and it will work faster also.
