Hello all,
i've just had a chance to take a look at the Illiad e-ink reader. It
could be a interesting machine to run einstein on. The screen is
fabulous! take a look at print a glossy magazine and imagine that as a
screen... size: A5 portrait. The digitizer is wacom style, so no
writing with a fingernail, but also no calibration! It runs a form of
linux and the SDK is public. build in wifi and usb. it can take cf and
sd cards. the secret to power management is that only power is drawn
when you want it to change a screen. no power is needed to maintain the
image on the screen. that could be one obstacle if we want to run a
emulator on it. and refresh rate is low. 1page change a sec. because a
e-ink screen needs to be wiped out completely before a new page is
drawn. this is also visible in a brief flashing of the screen. so
animations will suffer as well.
as soon as i have spare time, i will take a closer look in trying to
run a linux port (if available...) of einstein on it.
funny part. battery life is estimated not in hours, but in page
turns... about 8000 IIRC.
