Thought I'd post a new experience here. I guess a lot of us use eBay
to keep our Newt stocks up.
I'm used to spotting the usual phishing emails.. .'we need you to
confirm your login details', 'warning your account may have been
hijacked', fake eBay newsletters etc etc. Usually riddled with bad
english and contradictions. Easy enough to spot.
I got a slightly different one today and nearly didn't spot it until
it was almost too late.
I received a totally accurate and convincing 'response to your
question' type email, you know the type with eBay HTML all round it
that corresponds to questions and answers made through the eBay
system. That format also applies to notifications of payment
received, dispatch etc.
This one simply said 'This email is to confirm that your item has
been dispatched. Please let me know when you get it. It was a
pleasure, please give me feedback, I'll give you feedback..blah blah
blah'
Now what have I ordered that I don't remember receiving? Lets click
on the item number...
That of course sends you through to a fake 'eBay' login
page...gotcha! I nearly did it before I noticed the lack of 'https'
in Safari address bar.
Careful out there guys!
