I just received three eMates from Wegener Media in South Carolina. They
have a bunch that they are selling off for ~$40US or ~$60US with a charger.
They lost my order, then sent it promptly after I called them back (no 800
number). The eMates arrived intact, one with an original stylus, the other
two with ribbed plastic replacements, no boxes, manuals, disks, dongles,
yadda yadda, with everything working and screens with various levels of wear.
The biggest problem is that the "charger" is a Radio Shack 7.5V 700ma. wall
wart grafted on to a cord with a barrel jack that fits. Definitely NOT
worth the $20US upcharge. For those listers that figure that the Apple
chargers put out superior quality electrons, beware these will surely
release your magic smoke and you will be forever damned for using non-Apple
equipment. For the more technically inclined, the eMate is rated at 1.2A,
so the problem would be more like smoking the charger. Either way,
definitely not worth $20US.
So, if anyone is tempted to go through these people for eMates, don't
bother with the charger. If other people have these things sitting in
storage somewhere, you really should let someone know, I was looking for
about a year now and have had 3 leads not materialize.
