Can't you do the same thing from a word processor and a desktop search
program? This is how I do it and then search on any keyword; a good program
will allow boolean searches to allow you to refine your queries. A
desktopwide search engine means that you don't have to care about where you
put anything anymore.

I'm actually looking at more than just iCal, Address, and Mail. I
want to add a component for Notes, a place to dump the snippets of
information from my life. I want a collection box, much like my
Newton now acts as I take notes on things. An outliner, of sorts,
integrated with the various databases on my system. Does that clarify
things at all?
