Tried that. Didn't work. The screw was on too tight (originally, and
after being reassembled the first time), and it just did not work.

I would agree. But my choice was limited and I made a snap decision. If
this had been a $500 item, I probably would not have risked it.

That's what I was originally attempting to do, but:

A. The screw head was quite resistant to being drilled. Tried several
bits. Even one specifically for stripped screws.
B. The screw was going through the mainboard and I didn't want to risk
damage to the PCB by forcing it.
C. Again, little to no room to work in that recessed screw hole.
D. The plastic gave way instead of the screw. I didn't PLAN on the
plastic going. It just did. It was still a better choice than damaging
the PCB.

Hey! I did switch to Mac two years ago. Now I get ill if I even have to
touch a PC!
Despite my experience, though, I never had to deal with torx on PC
cases. It was all phillips heads. Torx apparently is more susceptible
to stripping. Live & learn. The important thing is that the soldering
and hinge repair themselves went without a hitch!

Well, if this were somebody else's hardware, it wouldn't have gone that
way. I can be a little careless with my own cheap stuff, but if it
belonged to someone else I'd tell them they have to wait until I can
track down a proper screwdriver. I'm impatient for my own benefit, but
I never took any chances with other people's equipment.
