I don't know is heap is your problem...most likely though, it is...
There is only two ways to increase your heap.
1) upgrade to a 2100
2) freeze packages you don't use much.
The first one is a no-brainer.
The second one is a little more tricky in that while the Newton has the PKG freeze included in the OS, it is not activated on a stock unit. You will need an app that will turn on the freeze functionality. After that, you can delete the app.
The hassle with freezing is that to retain your heap, you need to tap the frozen app once to unfreeze. Then wait for it to unfreeze, then tap it again to start the app. then when you're don'e, you need to tap it again to freeze it again! Quite a hassle.
There are apps like Dashboard that will open froze apps and refreeze them when you're done using it.
Using this method, you should have plenty of heap to perform almost any task you want.

Evenin' all
I've been having all sorts of fun with the newly acquired MP2000...
using all the nice upgrady things writeStuff has to offer Works,
improving the HWR with some Standalone freebies etc.
The two problems I have are with regard to networking...
1. I've downloaded all the relevant software for Bluetooth
connectivity, have working Pico card and have gone through the Wiki
steps to get the fella up and going but get instant error messages
when trying to connect to my iBook. Am I running out of heap or the
suchlike?
2. If so, can I transfer some of the applications to my flashcard to
open a bit of space up? I've tried freezing them and trying things
but with no luck... what's the story?
It's a pity as I'm growing progressively more reliant on the MP for
teaching notes, addresses etc and am determined to keep the Treo I've
inherited in the box where it belongs.
Helpppppp.
