Cool. Thanks to you and others on the board for confiming that an
installation can indeed be done without harm to the Newton.
What prompted the question was seeing a Newton with serial board mod for
sale. After quizzing the owner about the condition of the case plastics, he
admitted seeing a hairline crack near where the board was installed. I
guess this is not an irreparable problem, though:

...it's just that I am timid about using any sort of solvents on case
plastics. The thought of doing so makes me want to run and hide.
I'm afraid I'm more of a "preventative medicine" kind of guy.
