Your experience with alternative solutions echos mine. Nothing I found
could touch my old MP110. When I discovered recently that I could purchase
better Newton hardware I was delighted. I am just getting started with a
fresh MP2100 I purchased from J & K Sales.
The real value of my MP110 was the ability to carry infpormation with me. I
took a lot of Notes, and I used Notion! List Manager. Transfering that
information to a desktop never justified the battery drain involved.
This may change when I combine my bigger and much better MP2100 with a
knowledge management application I wrote myself, called iKnow. A lot of
iKnow was inspired by my Newton experiences. For example, the user is
unaware of files per se, and there is no save command. The program takes
care of all that. If anyone is interested, visit
<http://www.aloha.com/~knowtree/iKnow/iknow04.html>, although this info is
slightly outdated. I have a much improved version 0.5 ready to release,
which includes formatted printing via LaTeX.
What feels like a good idea to me is to make transfering Notes from the MP
into an iKnow collection as seamless as possible.
