Because of the dual forks in Mac files, I found that unpacking Mac archives
under any OS but MacOS is a futile exercise in learning far too much about
how Mac files work ;-)
To be honest, doing so could render some executables useless. Some exe's
will rely on both forks being there to function.
So long as the .sit file is either binhexed or uncorrupt, then Stuffit under
MacOS can still uncompress archives even when the filetype is not set. You
can always find one file that loses its filetype and then won't uncompress,
but often these are compressed with later versions of Stuffit and are
actually incompatible with earlier expanders.
