If you had some cheap nicads in the tray, yeah, but don't expect too
much out of it. The whole solar thing would be a convenience to leave
the pack inside the newt. I have a panel "book" that unlips and unfolds
to about 450mm x 300mm and has provision for multiple voltage taps out,
from 3V to 12V (no load). I can provide about 75mA @ 12V setting, and
just barely gets the Newt charging. It, too, is the cheap amorphous
panel and the whole unit weighs just under a kilogram. Not something
I'd want to lug around with me in my backpack (which usually weighs a
bit already). :-P
