as I recall Escale likes TCP/IP.
If you have an alternative way of installing packages NCX is able to
install packages.
If you can get Classic running, NCU likes ethernet.
Escale works for me via TCP/IP some people report problems. Newt
will need TCP/IP module installed
NewTen will connect via serial. Nothing special needed on newt.
An alternative approach is to enable Web sharing on your Mac, look in
you user folder for the sites folder. Read the text in 'index'. this
gives you the web address to use to access your Mac.
Create a new folder in 'sites', such as "Newton"
Use Newtscape to connect to your Mac, in this format http://(your IP
address eg. 192.168.11.105)/~(your short name)/newton/
You can install packages, download gif and I think jpeg images into
NewtsCape and HTML documents that can be saves as newtworks
documents, or Newton books.
You can also use a newton web browser to download packages for Newton
friendly sites such as
Ed's Package downloader <http://www.tek-ed.com/>
both above solutions assume that you have Newt's Cape installed
