I've run into the same issue.

I think we have to ask Simon Bell to handle .ical/.vcal (and maybe
.vcard as well?) as file attachments instead of inline text. I
mentioned this issue to Eckhart Köppen a while ago and it didn't
appear to be on his (i.e. IC/VC's) end.
