Nothing is needed on the device side. The chips take care of
everything and neither the device nor the application in the PC will
know that they use USB instead of RS232.

FTDI chips are one very common resource, but there are also firmware
USB implementations for all kinds of Atmel chips.


PS: I am very interested in getting charging via USB going, so I
don't need the power brick anymore.
