[NTLK] Dead Newton

Aloha!
My Newt finally gave up, I think. I put fresh batteries in and the ac
adapter and all I could get upon reset was whether I wanted to erase all
data......at first I said no and the newt died each time so I tried yes and
the Newt died.
Does anyone replace the battery non the board? Do we "DIY"? if so, how?
etc.
