For many years now, at least 20, the vision has been out there for small
handheld computers that will change our world. I have this image in my
mind of a teacher sitting outside with her class, and everyone using a
handheld computer to read a textbook (I don't know if that was an Apple
ad or commercial from way back).

What has been lacking is the technology and infrastructure to achieve
it. Now that this is all falling into place, this is a very real
possibility.

Truthfully however, I don't know if it will be Apple providing this. I
think initiatives like the One Laptop Per Child project have the vision
and dedication to do it so that it reaches a large percentage of the
children in our world. With time, I increasingly feel that Apple's
vision is about profits.
