Ahhh that would explain why one of them died on you. I suspect that the
phone system used up a lot of the write cycles.

Yep Dan.  The moral of the story is, flash media can eventually fail.
(What doesn't right?)  What happened to me in that case is what could
happen to Newton users a bit down the road.
