You cannot charge batteries in the AA battery tray without
modification. If the tray is modified use only Nimh cells.
For external charging It won't matter much. The Newton expects
Alkaline cells in the battery tray so you will get false readings on
the amount of battery life left with any other cells.
Nicks Soft charge will let you specify a different type of battery
and I think Lithium is on the list.
