I may have found a way that will stave off the demise of my Newt from my workflow!
After the latest round of discussions on "What is the Newt/Where is it going/Reclassification" emails I when back to my Newt with a different approach/perspective. That of using the technology that was out for the Newt at the time, rather than trying to marry it with the latest and greatest tech of today. So I dusted off a G3 running 9.2.2. The old G3 fired right up! Everything just worked! Awesome. The idea is to start from OS9 rather then from OS X and see how I can make things work the way i need to.
My main goal: sync email in manner similar to my old palm days; would it be great to use SimpleMail. Mail V etc...? Sure, but it has never worked right for me no matter how hard I've tried. I really don't need to sent emails from my Newt, but it is handy to reference them on the go.
Back to the task at hand: I can now successfully connected my Newt to Eudora 1.5.5! Eudora is not great and rather unintuitive IMHO, (YMMV) but at least it is the bridge that I've looking for.http://www.mac.com/Webmail2.woa/Contents/WebServerResources/English.lproj/images/buttons/toolbar/send_default.gif
So what? I hear some say ;) Syncing email has been something that has been declared here as impossible, to which I say now it isn't. :) Through a lot of google searching and trial and error I was able to make it work. My next steps are to see just how I'll get my email to Eudora so I can sync it to the Newt. Once I can do that I'm hoping to Applescript the whole deal.
So far in testing the emails move from the Newt and back to Eudora perfectly, very stable and reliable which is not what I was expecting.
Here's what Ive used so far:
Eudora 1.5.5
Eudora Connection 1.0fc1
Power Mac G3 running 9.2.2
Right now I'm trying various version of Eudora to see if it will work with much higher versions than 1.5.5.
If I can pull this off I can continue to use the Newt as this will take care of my number one need. I have already changed my workflow where I enter all my meetings on the Newt first, then try sync to see what happens rather then the other way around. This has seemed to take care of the sync problems I was experiencing before. Time will tell.
