Hi there
Firstly thanks to everyone who attempted the handwriting exercise I
posted a couple of weeks ago.
On reflection I realise the test was too long and the instructions too
open to interpretation. Therefore the results wont get me closer to
establishing a hwr benchmark. All is not lost however see below.
There were in total 6 scores from 4 willing participants including
myself. Not a bad response rate from the 10,000 active newton users
worldwide. (I jest of course at myself). The results were as follows:
Time not including corrections
Andy Hill, 195 seconds, 20 errors (after many attempts)
Tony Kan, 225 seconds, 15 errors (attempt 1)
Steven Scotten, 265 seconds, 25 errors - (using Graffitti! how very dare
you!)
Guilio Marchi, 300 seconds with 12 errors (attempt 2)
Giulio Marchi, 385 seconds, 9 errors (attempt 1)
Steven Scotten, 420 seconds with 131 errors
Some also volunteered the total time including putting right the errors:
Guilio Marchi, 390 seconds (attempt 2)
Giulio Marchi, 465 seconds (attempt 1)
Gary Dunn, 562 seconds
So I guess the the handwriting champion is probably Tony Kan!
I'm still keen to establish a benchmark and to post this on the web
along with an mpeg to show how good hwr on a Newton is. To do this I
need a new plan which is as follows:
I am seeking a short paragraph of text that takes about 1 minute to
write. It must contain all the letters of the alphabet, some numbers, a
full stop, comma and apostrophe. Ideally this would also say something
about owning a newton.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd be glad to hear from you either on or
off list.
Once some appropriate text is found I'll post for comments on the rules
and attempt to gain a better response rate.
All the best.
Andy
