This certainly sounds like something within the
capabilites of the Newton. I know of students and
journalists who have used the Newton to take notes,
then transfer them to a laptop or desktop for editing.

As far as whether or not it's a good idea, the only
real way to get an answer to that one is to acquire a
Newton and start playing with it.

Would it be important to you to be able to both type
*and* use handwriting? The reason I ask is that there
is a model of Newton that would allow you to do both:

However, if you want to emphasize handwriting, a
MessagePad 2000 or 2100 might be the way to go.

Have you ever had a chance to use a Newton?
