From an end user perspective it's not a pain at all. It's
incredibly slick actually. I was amazed at how well designed the
installer is and how neatly it allows for updating and installing all
kinds of third party apps on the iphone. Also the number of available
programs is quite significant and surprisingly various. Everything
form book readers to sketch pads, etc.

From a developer perspective I do see that it's a real pain,
especially considering that updates to phone lock you out or
eliminate you...
