There is no way to read or write the linear flash cards from a Newton
in a PC. You'll need some way to transfer files using ethernet (which
requires already having net drivers on the Newton - a chicken and egg
problem, unless yours came with them! ) or a Newton to PC serial
cable and the connection software to load packages.
I use a Newton to PC serial cable I bought from www.jksalesinc.com
and the connection software downloaded from the archive at unna.org.
I use this on a Toshiba Libretto (an old 75 Mhz sub-notebook that's
actually a smidge smaller than the 2100!) and it works fine, but I'm
told there are speed issues running it on modern desktop PCs -
they're too fast. People have mentioned slowdown utilities like MoSlo
as a workaround.
(And all the TCP/IP solutions I've seen for the Newton use MacOS X
for the host - hey other folks, is there a TCP Newton package install/
synch package for Windows PCs?)
