Yes, but the point he was originally trying to make--and that I
caught, was that the _quality_ of the kit is not beta--it is not
feature complete, and certainly not worthy of the name "beta." In the
strictest sense, beta software is feature complete, and beyond the
"buggy" stage. It is the last stage before release, and should be both
complete and stable, with only still unknown bugs. However, in recent
years, "beta" has been defined down--kind of like the "dumbing down"
we see in our educational systems these days. Worse, as in the case of
Ubuntu, beta is the best you can say for release-candidate software.
Ubuntu releases whether the software is clean or not, due to their
tight time schedule. OS 10.5 certainly had known, unresolved bugs, and
shipped, as did Vista. This used to _never_ happen. So, whether Apple
calls it "beta" or not, it's _still_ alpha-quality software.
