My experience shows that NiMH are just as good/if not better than alkaline if only because they are rechargeable. Lithium can be very expensive for single use but should last a little longer than NiMH or Alkalines.
Lithium also has one big advantage over NiMH. Lithium will work down to -40 degrees (F). NiMH will not produce a current at near freezing temperatures. Very handy here in Tahoe (and probably Canada too) where daytime highs can be in the 20's and overnight lows... well, I won't boast the coldest temps... but you get the idea.
