[NTLK] Modem NCU Connection?

I was reading on WikiWikiNewt that you could connect your newton via a modem to another computer with a modem. My Laptop has a phone jack on it and I have a Megahertz Fax Modem, Could I connect my newton via this rather than through the serial?
