I am not that familiar with Dialup stuff, but using
a standard Ethernet connection and a standard Ethernet
card, you certainly can. I am using SimpleMail for
this. The old version can't do IMAP, which I do not
need, but it is quite reliable with POP3 - SMTP.

Have a look here if you plan to set up an Ethernet
