Having worked in the alarm industry for a couple of decades I can tell you that detecting breaking glass as opposed to any other loud noise takes very sophisticated circuitry. If you just want to trigger on a loud noise and don't mind a few false alarms, that is different. But either way you will need a custom app to send the email or to trigger the existing email app.

I would like to have my Newton monitor ambient sound levels, and when the
sound of a voice is heard, send me an email or make a HTTP GET web call to a
server so I can know it. Detecting the sound of breaking glass would be cool
too.

Can anyone give me their $.02 on sound recognition?

Thanks.
