Newton Script is the least of our concerns. Newt/0 already implements
the entire Newton Script language and can be compiled for any platform.
What is missing are the functions that make up the system behind
Newton Script. If we can implement those, (alomost) all our existing
applications would run full speed on pretty much any device.
Unfortunatly, there are hundreds of functions inside the NewtonOS,
including all the GUI stuff and Soup management.
I own a wonderful tablet PC with WindowsXP. It is bearable in size and
has a great color display that even works outdoors. I rarely use it
though because the floating text window drives me insane. It always
pops up somewhere else and limits where I can write, and how large I
can write. Apart from that, there a no pen-friendly applications for
XP. Even the notebook that comes with the tablet edition does
completely unneccessary stuff. It asks me, where to save the current
document, and I then have to tap myself through hierarchies in the
horrible XP file browser, and finally handwrite a filename for my
stupid single sheet of paper that has three or four words on it.
Nuts.
I like the Newton because (in descending order of importance)
1: I can write anywhere,
2: it switches on and off immediatly
3: it runs days on a single charge
4: the applications "just work". No fiddeling around on drive c:\
(who ever came up with "drive c colon backslash" should be tickled to
death!)
