That's a disingenuous comparison because L and C are not credited with discovering America: merely with discovering more *about* it.
And whether or not they were pioneers depends on your perspective. That is, from the perspective of the young United States east of the Mississippi, yes, they were pioneers. But from the perspective of the Indians? Maybe not so much. :)
