At least for components that have no more than two soldering pads I've always found it easiest to
simply use two soldering irons. After all that's why most of us are equipped with two hands :-)

The benefit of this is not only that solder melts on both pads at the same time. It also makes tools
to lift the component off unneccessary, since most of the components will gladly stick to one of the
two soldering irons. Of all the resistors I've soldered off 130 mainboards (about 200 by now), every
single one came off the board attached to one of the two soldering irons.

It goes without saying that you need low wattage soldering irons and very small soldering tips to
make sure you do not create any shorts or unsolder components you'd better leave alone.
