If I were you I'd backup all data that you can't live without and then brainwipe the Newton. How
this is done is outlined at the top of the disassembly page. This will reset the Newton to how it
was when it left the factory. If after that the Newton does not chime when starting up, it has a
hardware problem, most likely with the speaker or one of the cables connecting the speaker. These
cables can easily get squeezed if they aren't placed in a certain way before putting the Newton
together.
